About the event
The unique state of wonder & awe opens our hearts and minds to what's possible, unlocks our creativity, and invites us to play.
Wonder stengthens our immune system, reduces stress, releases oxytocin ... indeed, wonder seems like a wonder-full thing (learn more about the wonder of wonder here).
During the "Wonder" quest, we'll discover amazingness in ourselves, each other and our environment.
Expect gaping mouths and wide open eyes!
Aspects of wonder that we intend to dive into are*
- AWEsome nature (inspecting tide pools, plants, wildlife, etc.)
- AWEsome technology (a day at a makerspace where the power of machines combined with our creativity allows us to manifest amazing things!)
- AWEsome adventure (an excursion to an adventure playground, or a giant inflatable parcour, etc.)
- AWEsome inner world (exploring our intuition, the magic of synchronized movements, dance and music)
- AWEsome humans (witnessing human mastery - visual, performance or circus arts - maybe with a chance to participate)
The listed activities are currently tentative, and will be finalized by August 31.
"Children in wonder watching the stars, Is the aim and the end." -Dylan Thomas
All camps will take place part indoors (Acton Academy Campus), part outdoors (field trips around the SF Bay Area).
They're designed with the "Hero's Journey" framework in mind: a meaningful adventure that requires stepping into the "unknown", facing tests together, and ultimately reaching an ambitious goal - but most importantly, returning a changed person!
All camps emphasize emotional resilience, compassion, integrity, creativity and communication, fostering cooperation skills.
Extended Care is available on a case by case basis, and upon request.
Other upcoming Quest Camps:
Feburary's "Curiosity" quest will invite our heroes to investigate deeply into mystifying questions, and look behind the scenes.
In April, we will take action about things we "Care" - helping, volunteering, donating, surprising others ... and experience how good that feels.
May's "Courage" camp will lead us towards "venturing beyond", daring to do things we haven't done before, and that come with a little bit of "scare factor" (nothing unsafe, though).
