Acton Academy Silicon Valley - Spring Break Camp
The main intentions of the camp are to increase the students’ connection to themselves, each other and nature, and to support their curiosity, courage and the development of their self-confidence, in the context of a spirit of playfulness, joy and adventure.

C A M P D E S C R I P T I O N
9 am dropoff - campers will be transported to the Aikido By The Bay studio in San Mateo (20 min) by the Wild Hearts Kids Club - Sebastian Steinbach. The car ride will be utilized to build rapport between the camp guide and the kids, through funny but connection-building Q&A games, with a different focus each day.
9:30 am martial arts / self-defense / Aikido instruction begins at Aikido by the Bay
The instruction will follow the pattern of
- warmup games, conditioning, stretches (20 min)
- practice of basic skills (eg rolling, falling, stance, etc.) (15 min)
- practice of foundational Aikido techniques (tano henka, morotedori kokyu ho, shomen uchi, taisabaki, etc.) (15 min)
- water and restroom break (10 min)
- practice of applied Aikido techniques (ikkyo, kotegaishi, iriminage, etc.) (15min)
- practice of self-defense techniques (hip throw, getting out of grab from behind, blocks, etc.) (15 min)
- free form application (jiu waza, “back to back”, etc.) (10 min)
- cool down games (dodge ball, etc.) (10 min)
The students will be prepared to take their yellow belt test at the end of the week.
11:30 am - lunch break and free time. We’ll use nearby San Mateo Central Park (5 min walking distance from dojo) to rest, eat, recharge, and allow free play. Kids need to bring their own lunch, snacks and drinks. Camp management will provide toys like balls, frisbees, cones, etc. to encourage creative free play.
12:30 pm - outdoor adventure. Students will drive to a different destination each day, be immersed in nature, and experience creative challenges.
Recommended adventures / destinations:
- “Team Ravine” at Stulsaft Park (abseiling, balancing, tight roping, water play)
- “Stanford Scooters” in Palo Alto (exploring the Stanford campus on scooters in the form of a geocaching treasure hunt, where teamwork is critical)
- “Odyssey” at Pulgas Water Temple (building a ship together from cardboard, tape, etc. and transport a band of Lego adventurers safely across the pond)
- “Beach Bonanza” at Linda Mar (crafting and cooking in a solar oven, collective sand structure challenge)
- Discovering beautiful Bedwell Bayfront Park (free exploration, with optional Ninja games or Geocaching in case they don’t come up with their own activities)
3 pm - campers will be dropped off back on campus in Redwood City
Camp will be held with a minimum of 4 participants, and is limited to a maximum of 6 participants.

This ticket includes transportation, programming, and all needed equipment. Campers are requested to bring their own lunch, snacks and drinks.
